Some Basics Information Regarding Saree
Saree is the traditional garment in India. It is an unstitched piece of garment, which is draped around the body and usually measures between 6 and 6.5 metres. There are three main parts to a saree – a palu, the inside section and the fall. The inside section is the least decorative – reason being that it is not very visible. The fall is the lined border – this is the bottom of the saree and is always lined with an additional garment – this is to prevent the wear and tear. The final part is the palu. This is the most decorative part of the saree. This is the portion of the saree that is most visible. It is the part that is draped over the shoulder and hangs down.
There are two other essential pieces of the saree – you cannot wear a saree without these two external pieces – These are petticoat and a blouse. The petticoat is worn from waist down and usually securely tightened with a draw string. The color of the petticoat has to match with the saree color – or should at least closely tie in with the color of the saree. Otherwise you will be able to view a different colored petticoat and this is definitely not a pretty sight.
A blouse is worn on top and always has to complement the saree – it is like the accessory of the saree. A blouse's color and design accentuates the saree. A blouse's color does not necessarily have to match the saree's color. The blouse can be of contrasting color or matching color. The blouse should go well with the saree and accessorise the saree. The blouse can either have short sleeves, long sleeves or can be sleeveless. Necklines of a blouse depends on the personal choice of the person wearing it. The blouse ends right beneath the bust line.
